The Middle East - Jordan's Petra

Jordan is not a country I would have ever thought to visit, but somehow I ended up there.  Maybe it was the stunning photography by Annie Griffith Belts or the third Indiana Jones.   Last Summer Cindy and I traveled to Egypt and Jordan, moving around via bus, taxi, foot, ferry, and everything else in between.  Always staying on the cheap and always moving like the locals.  We eventually crossed the Red Sea on a ferry full of Middle Easterners and found pure delight.  Jordan is a land of beautiful deserts, heck Lawrence of Arabia was filmed there and some of the most welcoming and friendly people I have ever met.

Here is Petra:

Petra is a city hewn from the rocks.   It was built before Christ and inhabited by both kings and commoners.   Today it is filled with the bedouin, and will leave you simply in awe.  Above is a temple in the Butterfly Valley.

If you crawl inside the Royal tombs the walls are covered in a mosaic of wondrous rock.
