The North Woods

In the Northwest corner of Minnesota lies one of America's best kept secrets - The Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.  Most Minnesotans know of the place, but few outsiders would mark this as a must see place.  They are mistaken.   The area was mostly logged in the early 1900's, but throughout several changes in law over the years, it has become a roadless land, where no one can live, motors are usually not allowed and travel is either by canoe or foot.   Abutting next to Canada lies the even lesser known Border Trail.  This trail is very minimally maintained, but if you can succeed in crossing it, you will be treated to some of the best views the country has to offer.

Here is the Border Trail:

As the trail rolls across Minnesota, one is afforded numerous views of the lakes that border Canada.

While many people crane their necks skyward and outward, if you look underfoot, you will be treated to an amazing array of life, such as a plethora of wildflowers and these two fall mushrooms.

Along the way, you will cross numerous streams and rivers, cascading rapids and will be treated to waterfalls both big and small.

If you ever want to hike it, be sure you have and can use excellent maps and a compass and are not afraid to do some serious bushwhacking.  You won't regret it.

Please let me know what you think of the photos.
